I have lived in Airdrie for over 30 years! I am married to a wonderful man and we are celebrating our 23 wedding anniversary this year, and we have two beautiful and talented daughters. Our oldest is attending university in Calgary and our youngest is in grade 8.
My educational background is in Nutrition and Food Services and I enjoyed working at the Foothills Hospital for 21 years. It was always a pleasure to put a smile on someone’s face and help them to have a better day. I also am a certified fitness instructor and have loved every minute of teaching aquasize for the last 27 years! My favorite class is the Over Fifty’s, where I have made many friendships over the years and continue to enjoy all of the wonderful people I meet in the pool. As a family, we enjoy traveling. we had a wonderful time on our latest holiday in Paris and Amsterdam this summer. I also like to keep busy with walking, yoga and family. Family and friends are very important to me, so working with A Friend Indeed has fit very nicely into my life! |

In 2006, while vacationing in Denmark, my husband and I decided it’s time to change our lives and move our whole family (one, girl, two boys and the dog) to Canada. I remember my husband saying “one year from now we will be living in Canada” and I had a hard time believing that.
Well, fast forward 12 months and we arrived in Airdrie, camped out at our new place for the first few weeks since all our belongings were in a seacan somewhere out on the ocean and adapted to a new lifestyle. Enjoying anything outdoors, going camping and hiking while having marshmallows at night at a campfire became regular highlights for us. The kids found lots of new friends, so did we and we couldn’t be happier. I preferred to be a stay-at-home mom until the kids were old enough, now it’s time to explore new waters and put my skills to use in seniors care. I truly enjoy being with them and sharing many stories, theirs and mine alike and it’s great being rewarded with a smile or a hug at the end of a visit. |

I grew up in Saskatoon and moved to Calgary in 2001 to find work. I was in an administrative job at the University of Calgary until my first son was born and I decided not to go back to work. I have been a stay- at- home- mom for both of my boys, who are now 7 and 10, ever since. I also provide before and after school care for friend’s children, and volunteer at my children’s school.
In all of my positions, I’ve learned that my favorite role is that of a caregiver. The choir I am in performs at retirement communities and that is how I discovered how much I enjoy meeting seniors. I love spending time with my senior friends from A Friend Indeed. I find it so rewarding knowing that I can brighten their day, or provide some comfort for them. However, I also think the visits are just as beneficial for me. We laugh and share stories and it is so interesting learning about their lives. |

Hello!
Around 2004 my husband and I left ‘big city life’ in Red Deer for the country … specifically, we build a house on his family’s land just outside of Carstairs. Although we didn’t technically farm we certainly enjoyed the lifestyle and carved out a nice little piece of the world for ourselves. I fell in love with small town living and being a part of the community, especially once my son was born. After 20 years of marriage my husband suddenly passed in 2018. Although I didn’t want to live our life in the country without him, I certainly did not want to give up my small-town life. My son and I moved into our home in Carstairs and are fortunate to be again making a warm and cozy existence for ourselves. As my son enters his teen years (yikes!!!), I have started exploring what my future will look like. Turns out it’s looking like ‘A Friend Indeed’ is a perfect fit. Since my husbands death I have been very drawn to grief and therapy concepts, senior and end of life support and just plain sharing kindness with others. ‘A Friend Indeed’ is opening up all sorts of opportunities for this and more. So far I am finding that being a Friend is a privilege and a blessing … it truly does fill my heart and hopefully I can reciprocate the feeling. In other area’s of my life I spend a lot of time with my son and our ‘furbaby’, a 5-year-old mini schnauzer. We are home body’s and love our time spent just hanging out or visiting with a few close friends. I am taking some courses and exploring new interests. Right now I’m just discovering where life will take me and so far … so good. |

I’m a mother of 3 boys and work have worked as a beautician for the last 35 years. I love working with people and getting to know my clients.
My hobbies include hiking in nature, watching movies especially comedies and cooking. I also like helping and caring for others in my spare time, by visiting local Seniors Homes to cut hair for those who aren’t able to go out. |

Born and bred in Corner Brook, NL, I graduated with my BSc from St Francis University in 2001. Most of my life I have worked or volunteered with youth, seniors, people with various disabilities and animals. I love for people to tell me about their travels or where they have come from so I can live more adventures.
When I was 18 I joined a panel and ended up helping change the Newfoundland and Labrador constitution with Canada. Which is a very unique accomplishment, but I firmly believe everyone has a social responsibility to help improve their community and support others in whatever capacity they have so it was really just a way to help my community. |

My name is Schön. I moved from the Philippines to Calgary 7 years ago.
I am currently in school to be an LPN and eventually an RN. I like to be busy throughout the day but in my spare time, I like to hike and take some photographs of the landscape, sometimes I paint them in acrylic. I am also an avid scrabble player. During the height of the pandemic, I have discovered that I am mostly extroverted. I appreciated human interaction and connection more than ever. |

I have spent over 16 years of my life working at seniors care facilities. I really enjoy working with seniors and believe in the concept of keeping them in their own homes with the necessary assistance for as long as possible, providing company for outings and visiting. Then to not just see them go to a care facility but to support and encourage them there to enjoy the activities at their facility and continue to enjoy outings and company as long as possible.
I live in Carstairs with my husband and 3 dogs and 3 cats and a whole lot of fish. I enjoy spending time with my horse, my pets, reading and cooking. My husband and I like to camp a little and we generally go out into the foothills west of us to do so. We enjoy the wildlife and the country quiet, and hubby is a keen photographer so we spend time looking for wildlife to photograph. |

I was born in Montreal, Quebec, the second of three children born to a French Canadian father and an Irish Canadian mother.
In 1972 I graduated with a BA in Economics/Political Science from Loyola College and after joining Lafarge in 1972, I was transferred to Calgary, AB During this time I was involved with the local as Regional Data Processing Manager. In Calgary I met my wife of 42 years, Mary. We have a family of 4 sons, which has now expanded to include 3 daughters in law and 2 grandchildren. Our kids were very active in several activities and sports played a large role in their development. During this time I volunteered my time with the local hockey association, coaching & managing teams, serving as a Director, and organizing special tournaments. After 33 years with Lafarge I retired from the organization and joined a start up company. Trying to build a company from scratch was a great learning experience, however it wasn’t successful and I then joined Husky Energy. After retiring from Husky I joined Golftown as a part time job and have sold golf clubs for the past couple of years. My wife and I like to travel and usually have a trip every year. We hope to resume our travel plans now that travel restrictions are easing.I continue to play some golf, and enjoy spending time with our two grandchildren, whose activity level make me wonder how we ever managed 4 kids. |
