I have lived in Airdrie for over 30 years! I am married to a wonderful man and we are celebrating our 23 wedding anniversary this year, and we have two beautiful and talented daughters. Our oldest is attending university in Calgary and our youngest is in grade 8.

My educational background is in Nutrition and Food Services and I enjoyed working at the Foothills Hospital for 21 years. It was always a pleasure to put a smile on someone’s face and help them to have a better day. I also am a certified fitness instructor and have loved every minute of teaching aquasize for the last 27 years! My favorite class is the Over Fifty’s, where I have made many friendships over the years and continue to enjoy all of the wonderful people I meet in the pool.

As a family, we enjoy traveling. we had a wonderful time on our latest holiday in Paris and Amsterdam this summer. I also like to keep busy with walking, yoga and family. Family and friends are very important to me, so working with A Friend Indeed has fit very nicely into my life!

In 2006, while vacationing in Denmark, my husband and I decided it’s time to change our lives and move our whole family (one, girl, two boys and the dog) to Canada. I remember my husband saying “one year from now we will be living in Canada” and I had a hard time believing that.

Well, fast forward 12 months and we arrived in Airdrie, camped out at our new place for the first few weeks since all our belongings were in a seacan somewhere out on the ocean and adapted to a new lifestyle. Enjoying anything outdoors, going camping and hiking while having marshmallows at night at a campfire became regular highlights for us. The kids found lots of new friends, so did we and we couldn’t be happier.

I preferred to be a stay-at-home mom until the kids were old enough, now it’s time to explore new waters and put my skills to use in seniors care. I truly enjoy being with them and sharing many stories, theirs and mine alike and it’s great being rewarded with a smile or a hug at the end of a visit.

I grew up in Saskatoon and moved to Calgary in 2001 to find work. I was in an administrative job at the University of Calgary until my first son was born and I decided not to go back to work.  I have been a stay- at- home- mom for both of my boys, who are now 7 and 10, ever since. I also provide before and after school care for friend’s children, and volunteer at my children’s school.

In all of my positions, I’ve learned that my favorite role is that of a caregiver. The choir I am in performs at retirement communities and that is how I discovered how much I enjoy meeting seniors.

I love spending time with my senior friends from A Friend Indeed.  I find it so rewarding knowing that I can brighten their day, or provide some comfort for them.  However, I also think the visits are just as beneficial for me. We laugh and share stories and it is so interesting learning about their lives.

Hello!
Around 2004 my husband and I left ‘big city life’ in Red Deer for the country … specifically, we build a house on his family’s land just outside of Carstairs.  Although we didn’t technically farm we certainly enjoyed the lifestyle and carved out a nice little piece of the world for ourselves.  I fell in love with small town living and being a part of the community, especially once my son was born.  After 20 years of marriage my husband suddenly passed in 2018.  Although I didn’t want to live our life in the country without him, I certainly did not want to give up my small-town life.  My son and I moved into our home in Carstairs and are fortunate to be again making a warm and cozy existence for ourselves.
As my son enters his teen years (yikes!!!), I have started exploring what my future will  look like.  Turns out it’s looking like ‘A Friend Indeed’ is a perfect fit.  Since my husbands death I have been very drawn to grief and therapy concepts, senior and end of life support and just plain sharing kindness with others.  ‘A Friend Indeed’ is opening up all sorts of opportunities for this and more.  So far I am finding that being a Friend is a privilege and a blessing … it truly does fill my heart and hopefully I can reciprocate the feeling.
In other area’s of my life I spend a lot of time with my son and our ‘furbaby’, a 5-year-old mini schnauzer.  We are home body’s and love our time spent just hanging out or visiting with a few close friends.  I am taking some courses  and exploring new interests.  Right now I’m just discovering where life will take me and so far … so good.

I’m a mother of 3 boys and have worked as a beautician for the last 35 years. I love working with people and getting to know my clients.

My hobbies include hiking in nature, watching movies especially comedies and cooking. I also like helping and caring for others in my spare time, by visiting local Seniors Homes to cut hair for those who aren’t able to go out.

As a child I spent four years in France, three years Germany as well as time in different parts of Canada as my dad served in the military. As a young adult, I took floral arranging at Olds college. I still enjoy arranging flowers today.  I have always enjoyed plants and have several in my home. I especially love African Violets.

Adult life saw me living in Toronto for 18 years, I then moved to Airdrie in 2004. I been here ever since.

After recently retiring from bookkeeping, I have had plenty of time to read, watch movies and do puzzles. I look forward to spring every year because I love gardening. I grow veggies in raised beds and grow flower gardens every year. I enjoy sharing stories, talking about family history, laughing, playing board games and doing crafts.

I’m an Alberta gal. I grew up on a farm east of Red Deer. I have a husband and three kids. I became an empty nester this year after parenting for 34 years, and, don’t tell my kids but, I’m LOVING it!

In my spare time I enjoy baking, making handmade cards and playing with my 4 grandkids.  Seniors are some of my very favorite people in the world and I count it a privilege to spend time with your loved ones.

I am an Air Force brat; born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario and moved with my parents in Ontario, B.C., and Alberta.  I grew up in Alberta and studied at the University of Alberta where I received my Bachelor of Education degree.  I spent seven years of teaching in remote indigenous communities in Alberta and B.C.  During this time, I met and married my husband, Erik, of 30 years.
I quit teaching to stay home with my three young boys.  When the youngest entered school, I worked in various positions in the oil and gas industry.  This is where I discovered my passion for teaching adults.  I have travelled all over the western Canadian sedimentary basin working with oil and gas operators and maintenance staff.  After being down-sized in 2014, I began working part-time at a small church in south Calgary.
I have a passion for helping people.  I always ask myself, “How can I make that person’s life better?”  I enjoy visiting with elderly people and love to hear their stories.  I have a vast array of experiences, from teaching in fly-in communities to dog-sledding to raising three sons to hiking and rock-climbing to working in oil and gas.  I am sure that your loved one and I will find something to talk about!

I have spent over 16 years of my life working at seniors care facilities.  I really enjoy working with seniors and believe in the concept of keeping them in their own homes with the necessary assistance for as long as possible, providing company  for outings and visiting. Then to not just see them go to a care facility but to support and encourage them there to enjoy the activities at their facility and continue to enjoy outings and company as long as possible.

I live in Carstairs with my husband and 3 dogs and 3 cats and a whole lot of fish.   I enjoy spending time with my horse, my pets, reading and cooking. My husband and I like to camp a little and we generally go out into the foothills west of us to do so.  We enjoy the wildlife and the country quiet, and hubby is a keen photographer so we spend time looking for  wildlife to photograph.

I moved to Airdrie in 2004 with my husband. We have lived in several places in Alberta  and find we really like Airdrie. Our children and grandchildren live in other parts of Alberta and BC.

All of my past employment involved being with and helping people in various capacities on a regular basis. I really missed seeing other people on a regular basis after I retired. Being a friend allows me to spend time with some wonderful people, to help them if needed with chores or shopping and to socialize, a benefit for both of us.

I was born in Montreal, Quebec, the second of three children born to a French Canadian father and an Irish Canadian mother.
In 1972 I graduated with a BA in Economics/Political Science from Loyola College and after joining Lafarge in 1972, I was transferred to Calgary, AB During this time I was involved with the local as Regional Data Processing Manager.
In Calgary I met my wife of 42 years, Mary. We have a family of 4 sons, which has now expanded to include 3 daughters in law and 2 grandchildren. Our kids were very active in several activities and sports played a large role in their development. During this time I volunteered my time with the local hockey association, coaching & managing teams, serving as a Director, and organizing special tournaments.
After 33 years with Lafarge I retired from the organization and joined a start up company. Trying to build a company from scratch was a great learning experience, however it wasn’t successful and I then joined Husky Energy. After retiring from Husky I joined Golftown as a part time job and have sold golf clubs for the past couple of years.
My wife and I like to travel and usually have a trip every year. We hope to resume our travel plans now that travel restrictions are easing.I continue to play some golf, and enjoy spending time with our two grandchildren, whose activity level make me wonder how we ever managed 4 kids.

I’ve been in the Didsbury community for over 20 years after moving here from North-east Saskatchewan. I have enjoyed getting to the mountains for hiking the big and the small, biking Legacy Trail, and eating beaver tails in Banff. Summer is a favorite of mine. I grow many flowers and vegetables in my greenhouse and my kids love to plant seeds and play in the water fountain. We spend lots of time riding our bikes, being library nerds, and beach days are a must.

After being a stay-at-home mom for ten years it was time to learn something new. I enrolled in college and have recently graduated from the Educational Assistant program. While attending school I worked at a senior’s lodge and discovered how much I like interacting with the residents. Getting to know them, and learn about their life is rewarding. I’m looking forward to making some friends!

I have been married to my husband for 17 years and I have been blessed to be able to stay home and raise my children. I have truly enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer at their schools, participate in school field trips, manage their hockey teams and join their hockey associations as a board member.

I am so excited to join A Friend Indeed and look forward to all the amazing conversations, adventures and friendships I will now be a part of.

My name is Marion and I live in Calgary. I was born in Ontario and raised and educated in Saskatchewan, but I now call Alberta home.

I have been married for 24 years and have two grown up sons. I was lucky to be a stay at home mom and a professional volunteer. Now that my boys have grown up, I have more time on my hands.

Both of my parents are gone. I know the care, and the work, involved in taking care of aging family. My hope, in working for A Friend Indeed, is to help brighten a seniors day with a visit.

I enjoy cooking, music, gardening, reading, indoor plants and yoga. I hope some of these hobbies will help to make my visits more exciting.

I originally hail from Manitoba, but have been living in the beautiful city of Airdrie for about 20 years now. I have a wonderful husband and 2 very active children that keep me busy. We also share our home with 2 small Morkie dogs – Willy and Jazzy. I recently retired from being a full time teacher. I started teaching in 1995 after obtaining my degree as a teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The best part of my teaching career was always the strong connections I made with my students and their families. I look forward to continuing this connection making as I embark on meeting new clients and their families!

Aside from work, I am admittedly very much a homebody. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, cooking, listening to music, watching my children in their sporting activities and walking my dogs.

I am fortunate to call Airdrie home for the past 13 years. I love the community and am proud of our city. I am married to Tony who is a wonderful man. I have three daughters and one son that are my world. I am Grandma to six fabulous, energic, dynamic, funny, and loving grandsons. You can find me spending as much time as I can with these boys.
I retired in 2020 after a successful 44-year long career with Cooperative Retailing System. My expertise was in the deli department. I enjoyed all interactions with fellow employees and customers.  I can make a wicked charcuterie board.  I love being retired but do miss all the wonderful people I met over my years.
Pickleball is my newfound love. It is a great way to stay active and meet great people.  You can also find me at Genesis Centre taking a fitness or aqua class. Another great way to meet people and keep social. I also enjoy golfing, walking, and reading. I love to travel with Mexico being my favorite destination.
Meeting new people and acquiring new experiences is exciting for me! I feel “A Friend Indeed” will be a perfect fit to my lifestyle and routine!

Born in the east – Montreal – and raised in the west – Edmonton – I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to visit much of our diverse country.  With still more to see!

My passion for working with Seniors started at age 13 as a “Candystriper” (now I’m dating myself!), Ward Aide and Certified Nursing Aide, and solidified in my ‘50s through gerontological training, volunteering and work in Health Care.  In between I pursued a 27-year career with TELUS.

I enjoy lifelong learning – who knew that the simple computer or iPhone could provide the wealth of materials, golfing in the summer, and volunteering in areas of interest to me.  My current goal?  To become more comfortable at speaking French!

I am a wife of 30 years and the mother of two great sons and one rather anxious dog. I love to read mysteries and historical fiction, bake and watch vet shows and dog rescue videos.

I have always loved talking to seniors and hearing their stories of what life was like when they were younger. Having walked with my parents through their final years I want to help other families care for their parents, improving the quality of all their lives

I enjoy all cultures. I am an author of 3 published books and I have my own podcast show.

I love playing card games, board games and jigsaw puzzles or other puzzles, with anyone who will join me. I love music. I enjoy crafts and being creative. I like outdoor activities like walking and gardening. I enjoy learning new things.

I tend to be the type that wants to help and support others and contribute to my community. I hope to meet a senior and develop a long lasting friendship.

I was born and raised in southwestern Ontario. In my younger years, I had my grandparents, great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents! We would visit often, and I have very fond memories of those times.

I volunteered at Aphasia clinics. After getting a Linguistics degree and then a diploma as a Communicative Disorders Assistant, I began a very rewarding career in the field of Audiology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

I love to learn and I always learn so much just from having conversations with people and getting to know them and their stories. I look forward to making new Friends, with A Friend Indeed, as connecting with people is very rewarding to me, as is being part of my community.

Outside of work and family, I love to marvel at the natural world: the big, prairie sky, the trees, the animals, the sun, the moon, the stars. We are all connected in the most beautiful way and we all belong here in our own, unique way, and reflecting on this brings me immense joy and inspiration.
