Our Beliefs

For Every Senior

We believe that safety, comfort, and significance belong with every senior, every time, everywhere.

Our approach is intentionally person-centered. Our time together inspires laughter and fun with enough structure to scale our support as needs change.

This is why we've created regularly scheduled visits for our seniors and how we are a reliable support for their families.

Our Approach

Person-Centered Care

Our approach is intentionally person-centered. Our time together inspires laughter and fun with enough structure to scale our support as needs change.

This philosophy is why we prioritize regularly scheduled visits and are a recognized and reliable source of support for both seniors and their families.

Our Mission

Together We Laugh

When two individuals come together in the spirit of responsive companionship, trust is created with time and consistency, and respect is grown through empathy. With these established, good times and good laughs follow.

Our Vision

A Positive Catalyst In The Community

We are committed to being a companionship service that offers seniors the opportunity for continued personal growth, security, and empowerment within their community through the availability of choice and inclusion in the familiar activities of where they live.

A Friend Indeed is a catalyst within the community at large in understanding seniors' needs and desires as well as support for their family caregivers.

Our Goals

Making Strides Forward Each Day

  • To provide opportunities for seniors to experience continued or increased independence that is maintained through choice;

  • To support the families who find themselves in the caregiver role;

  • To be a successful and prosperous role model for future entrepreneurs who wish to create real-life positive advancements for their senior community residents.

Putting It All Together

At A Friend Indeed, we're dedicated to creating engaging, enriching, and joyful experiences for seniors through personalized companionship services. We believe in fostering a greater feeling of independence, adding more enjoyment to each day, and providing families with true peace of mind.

Whether your aging loved one is living in their own home, a care facility, in memory care, or even in a hospital awaiting placement, our “Capital F” Friends are there to provide meaningful connection, engaging support and advocacy. We are a positive distraction to help break up their day, so everything doesn’t have to be on the family’s shoulders.

We provide non-medical companion care services that are tailored to the individual. Helping out the family caregiver, we visit Seniors residing in: Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, Carstairs, Didsbury, Innisfail, Olds, and Red Deer.

A Note From Our Founder

All Of This Matters To Me

"I have been in this myself. I was a caregiver for my mom. All of this matters to me. I admit, sometimes it's tough to sort through the emotions that come with caregiving. My go-to was to research and learn how to help relieve or manage my anxiety and fear of the unknown. [I found the Best Friend's Approach program from the Alzheimer's Society of Calgary. It was so in line with how A Friend Indeed was interacting with the individuals living with dementia that I took the Train the Trainer program and it is part of our training we provide to our staff.]

If I can pass along information and insights that I have learned along the way to other families, then hopefully it empowers them while easing their mind and hearts. I am a daughter with siblings whose father passed away in 2000, who has been a caregiver with my sister to our Mom until she passed. I've experienced the busyness of  life with my husband, two sons and my business. Like you, I have a lot of roles and responsibilities in my life.

It's important to me that seniors are not only supported but feel valued and significant. Giving them a chance to escape from the "usualness" of the day, I see so much potential for access to creativity, fulfillment, and active living with the support of a Friend. This is how we can ward off loneliness and isolation. This is how obstacles are identified and then removed or reduced. This is how Quality of Life can be elevated, through Friendship and one-on-one time together.

As a family caregiver, I know I am able to understand things easier and support my loved one better when I come from a place of ease, spaciousness and flexibility instead of from anxiety or annoyance or guilt. I do better when I feel better. I make a point of keeping myself healthy with sleep, nutritious food, water and relaxation techniques. I remember that caregiving is a marathon and not a sprint.

On an added note, if you believe in coincidence (or not), A Friend Indeed was created and in operation for 6 years before my mom started experiencing changes. To have the education, the experience, and the wonderful people in place to access in our time of need was true preparation from the Universe into our lives. I am grateful for that. I am grateful for it all. I invite you to reach out for a conversation.”
