Our Unique Approach Makes All the Difference

When Something Needs To Change

I get it; change can be hard. But sometimes, putting things off can create more challenges down the road.

Increased Isolation

You know those feelings of loneliness? It can snowball and that has real impacts on your aging loved one's health, mood, outlook, and overall ability to thrive.

Accelerated Decline

When your aging loved one is not engaged, challenging behaviours start to occur while abilities and faculties start to slip away quicker. “Use it or lose it” is very real and it happens quickly. It's about keeping minds and bodies active and thriving.

Increased Caregiver Stress

The more on your plate, the more strain there is. It's a recipe for burnout, and nobody wants that. It is not good for you or your aging loved one.

Regularly Scheduled Visits

Consistency is key. For you and your aging loved one. Scheduled weekly visits bring a sense of predictability to life, which can be so comforting and make it easy for planning around. We work closely with you to find the best day (or days) and time of day for regular weekly visits. Imagine having a schedule of great support you can count on!

Extra Support for Living:

Whether your aging loved one lives at home and needs a little extra support to keep life manageable OR lives in a care facility and is looking for some one-on-one distractions to strengthen feelings of independence, we're here to make their day as purposeful, empowering, and enjoyable as possible.

This might look like:

  • Rekindle old interests or try something new.

  • Ensuring access to healthy food, snacks and hydration.

  • Enjoyable opportunities to use their abilities so they don’t lose them forever. Assisting with the “to-do” list –together.

  • Bringing back spontaneity –for its pure enjoyment!

Outings and Errands

Staying connected to the community your aging loved one lives in is so important . During our scheduled visits, we love to help mobile seniors get out and about.

Whether it's:

  • Heading to local appointments

  • Grocery shopping

  • Running errands on their terms

  • Connecting with friends or other family members

  • Simply enjoying a change of scenery

Dementia Support:

  • Supporting someone living with dementia requires a special touch. All of our Friends receive extra training, which includes the practices and philosophy of the Best Friends Approach program through the Alzheimer's Society of Calgary. We create a safe, engaging space of acceptance, all under the umbrella of having fun!

  • We know all behaviour has meaning, and it is up to us to put our detective hat on to uncover what that meaning is. It's about meeting the person where they are and smoothing the obstacles around them while creating moments of joy and purpose.
